Image: japan50yen1955.jpg Original inquiry: one side has what i think is a flower that covers all of the center and script around the edge of that same side. 3 figures above and 3 figures below the flower. The other side has a large 50 that covers most of it. Figures above and below the 50. The coin feels like alum. No hole in coin.

This may be your coin, Bill. It features the large flower in the center with three logograms above and below it on one side, and a large 50 with more logograms above and below on the other side.
It was, however, not struck in aluminum, but in nickel. (If this is not your coin, Bill, you are welcome to submit a new appraisal request, and we'll try again!) It was produced in the 30th through to the 33rd year of the Showa period, which corresponds to 1955-1958 of our calendar. See below for dates:
三十 = year 30, 1955
三十一 = year 31, 1956
三十' = year 32, 1957
三十三 = year 33, 1958
The cool pattern of Japanese numerals starts to emerge!
